Strength Through Sharing and Understanding

The launch of our Support Groups and Breathing Meditation programs is less than a week away and the excitement is building!

Last week, we discussed the benefits of breathing and meditation, so this week I’ll let program creator Sharon Rotblatt explain in her own words what we want to accomplish through our Support Groups program:

“Support groups are the perfect forum to help people with the challenges that pop up on their journey through life. The groups provide opportunities to connect with others who understand, without judgment, what it feels like to stand in those shoes.”

Participants in the program will meet in a confidential, informal group setting led by a mental health professional. We hope Support Groups will help caregivers:

  • Feel more empowered, less alone and better understood

  • Have a safe place to go to share personal issues, experiences, struggles and thoughts

  • Connect with people and resources to help them solve their own problems and make their own informed caregiving decisions

  • Become part of a growing community of caregivers who share information and support

  • Find inspiring role models and peers who are contending with similar issues

  • Reduce stress and anxiety, improve self-esteem, gain a greater sense of well-being and, ultimately, become a better caregiver as a result of focusing on self-care

Sessions for both Breathing Meditation and Support Groups will be 45 minutes long and will take place weekly at two locations:

Everyone provides care to someone they love. Taking this journey together is always better!

PS: Thanks to this weeks Cleveland.com article we've had a flurry of activity and are in need of One-to-One Caregiver Support volunteers! This program connects caregivers with volunteers who have experience caring for someone with a mental illness. Volunteers are trained through a webinar series focused on active listening, empowering resilience and self-care, and setting healthy boundaries. Volunteers can register via link below.
